Case: Vineyard Owner vs. Vineyard Keepers

In this post I want to return to a type of evidence I have covered before. Demonstrative Evidence is also known as Illustrative Evidence. This type of evidence is used to assist the jury in understanding what has happened in a case. So if we present spiritual evidence that is illustrative it should show what is happening in the King’s dominion an also provide prophetic insight as to what will happen in the future.

John 5:19-20 Then Jesus answered and said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, but what He sees the Father do; for whatever He does, the Son also does in like manner. 20 For the Father loves the Son, and shows Him all things that He Himself does; and He will show Him greater works than these, that you may marvel.

Matthew 21:33-39 “Hear another parable: There was a certain landowner who planted a vineyard and set a hedge around it, dug a winepress in it and built a tower. And he leased it to vinedressers and went into a far country. 34 Now when vintage-time drew near, he sent his servants to the vinedressers, that they might receive its fruit. 35 And the vinedressers took his servants, beat one, killed one, and stoned another. 36 Again he sent other servants, more than the first, and they did likewise to them. 37 Then last of all he sent his son to them, saying, ‘They will respect my son.’ 38 But when the vinedressers saw the son, they said among themselves, ‘This is the heir. Come, let us kill him and seize his inheritance.’ 39 So they took him and cast him out of the vineyard and killed him.

In my last post Fruit of a Spiritual Tree I used a parable of Jesus about an owner of a vineyard, his expectations and his encounters with those taking care of his vineyard. One way to look at this parable is like a landmark court case (Vineyard Owner v. Vinedressers). By using this approach it could give us some insight as to how a judge might rule today and in the future. Better yet is should give us some insight and strategy as to the way we might present and expect God to present evidence of His Kingdom through us to a jury of our peers.

The basic outline of the case is presented in Mathew 21:33-35 where the vineyard owner created a vineyard and placed in it everything needed to make it successful. The vineyard was within the hedge and the tools make wine and a tower from which to communicate and protect the vineyard was also provided with the vineyard. Verse 34 states that the fruit was for “they”. Is the “they” the servants on behalf of the owner or the vinedressers?

As we read and listen to this parable we not only see what the owner provided to make the vineyard successful we can see a story being told as an example of illustrative evidence. If Jesus tried to explain spiritual truth of how the spiritual Kingdom of God (KoG) operates to those who have not been spiritually awaken they would miss the point. But by using this parable as illustrative evidence Jesus can assist any member in the jury of our peers to understand why God’s spiritual work will be successful as it is activated within the hedge or material flesh of mankind.

This vineyard or garden living on the inside of us is totally spiritual but it has characteristics like those illustrated in the picture of this vineyard. If we understand the purpose of a hedge, a tower and a winepress we can begin to understand how this internal and spiritual Kingdom operates. We see that carnal or material mindset of the vinedressers sees value in the flesh of the fruit (grapes) but because they miss the spiritual and universal understanding of their relationship to the owner they kill and steal hoping to keep a harvest that they perceive they do not own. This too is illustrative of a spiritual truth. See the final judgment of this case below (Mat 21:43) and notice who really owned the fruit

Matthew 21:43 Therefore I say to you, the kingdom of God will be taken from you and given to a nation bearing the fruits of it.

Matthew 11:12-15 And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffers violence, and the violent take it by force. 13 For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John. 14 And if you are willing to receive it, he is Elijah who is to come. 15 He who has ears to hear, let him hear!

A consistent point that Jesus makes during His ministry is that the material or carnal mind-set operates from a place of separation from God. This is a result of sin that subjected mankind to a mind-set that has at its foundation a knowledge of good and evil. The whole of Jesus ministry is to reconcile man back to God. The carnal mind-set fails to receive the free work of forgiveness of sin and receive by grace the right standing as child of God. The key to all spiritual evidence presented through us goes to the point, that we have been reconciled and are now one with God.

Christ mission and now our mission of bringing heaven to earth serves this purpose. It destroys the disbelief that we have to remain separated or fearful that our destiny is eternal separation from God our Father. If the opposite of heaven is hell then we could hold a working definition that regardless of our location if one is separated from God they are in hell. Likewise we can consider regardless of location that any place in the presence of God is heaven. And so the very moment we enter into the Presence of God here on earth that prayer has been answered by our Father.

Galatians 4:1-5 Now I say that the heir, as long as he is a child, does not differ at all from a slave, though he is master of all, but is under guardians and stewards until the time appointed by the father. Even so we, when we were children, were in bondage under the elements of the world. But when the fullness of the time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, that we might receive the adoption as sons.

Romans 8:19-21 For the earnest expectation of the creation eagerly waits for the revealing of the sons of God. 20 For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of Him who subjected it in hope; 21 because the creation itself also will be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God.

The ministry of Jesus, who was also known as the last Adam, was and is all about bringing the reality of our heavenly Father’s dominion to earth and to ensure that we have an eternal place in our Father’s Kingdom. In order for a person to willingly agree to be reconciled, their understanding of our Father’s willingness to forgive, love and heal them must become a part of their mind-set. The purpose of the illustrative evidence that we present is simply to change understanding.

God loves us and empowers us to share that understanding to all who will listen. Jesus is the Master example of how to present evidence of the truth concerning our Father and His Kingdom. Jesus has been authorized and He has given that authority to us so we can, like Him, share with those who have not been awakened to the truth of all matter. Spiritual transformation and understanding is a process that may take a lifetime but when it is complete our Father will be clearly seen in us and our ability to present spiritual evidence will at least be equal to that of Jesus our Teacher.

Luke 6:40 A disciple is not above his teacher, but everyone who is perfectly trained will be like his teacher.

Pictures of Truth

For us that have committed to our spiritual journey of understanding, we are learning to share what we have come to know as spiritual truth. If truth sets the innocent free then we have become advocates and disciples of that truth, and therefore in some ways we can be also called freedom fighters. This post is again encouraging us to use the tool of demonstrative evidence so we can present simulations and models that are useful in helping people apprehend the spiritual truth in operation in the Kingdom of God.

 Hosea 4:6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I also will reject you from being priest for Me;

Jesus was a master during the time he walked in the flesh, at the use of a word picture. It is impossible to physically hand someone a piece of spiritual evidence. This is true because spiritual evidence has no physical substance. However since we know that this physical world is formed by spiritual things, then any object in the material world is a symbol or a piece of evidence for spiritual things.

As ambassadors and priests of God’s Kingdom we have been given authority to reveal the present reality of His Kingdom to those unable at this moment to spiritually comprehend it. That is why we are called children of light. Like Christ we must become skilled at giving our friends in the material world who are presently asleep a word picture or demonstrative evidence. Any object that is comfortable and frequently used by the individual or the group we are talking too can be used in this manner.

John 15:7  If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you. By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples.

Revelation 22:2 In the middle of its street, and on either side of the river, was the tree of life, which bore twelve fruits, each tree yielding its fruit every month. The leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.

For example the scriptures above are using word pictures to reveal the operation of spiritual truth in our Father’s Kingdom.  We also, for example, can use a piece of fruit and its connection to the vine just like the Master Himself did to convey spiritual truth. Jesus in John 15:7 reveals spiritual operations as we should understand them for today. However a clearer revelation which is also in operation is revealed in the final book of the bible in Revelation 22:2. Unfortunately most Christian religions interpret and teach that this truth will only be available sometime in the future.

Spiritual truth is eternal, but its effects can be subject to time by our finite thinking. Therefore the operations of spiritual truth is not subject to the moment it first dawns in our conscious. Yet its application to our personal lives may be limited in its effectives by our thinking. However the reign of God’s Kingdom is and always will be forever in operation.

For example, the spiritual truth behind the operation of forgiveness did not become available the moment I accepted it or gave it to someone. For God so loves the world, and that is why He is sending us into it today. The Master says as much “as the Father sent me, I also send you.” So when did this thought enter into the Heart of God our Father? Was it the moment Adam sinned, or was it when He decided to create Adam, or was it when our Father created the heavens and earth?

Back to our example, one piece of fruit while sitting with friends at lunch, in a stocking at Christmas, in a fundraiser box you bought from a member of the local high school band can open the door to heaven. That same piece of fruit you encounter with your child while walking through the grocery store can set your child on the path. How about the fruit you and your spouse share with friends in the form of wine when you are out on the town.

Fruit is just one object in this material world we are all comfortable with and have common experiences with. There are many objects in this material world that are not limited by social, cultural, gender, political, racial, religious or economic boundaries that can be used a word pictures.

We have available to us many objects and symbols at our disposal with which to reveal the spiritual Kingdom of God. We all have different personalities and experiences and yet we all share common experiences with objects in this material world. Through Christ, God has placed us in a world where we are surrounded by relative darkness. As we understand our Father’s heart and become skilled with truth, people around us become transformed and begin their  personal journey.

Ephesians 5:8 For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light.

Luke 6:35 But love your enemies, do good, and lend, hoping for nothing in return; and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High. For He is kind to the unthankful and evil.

As sent ones we must learn to go with the heart of the one who is sending us. The heart of our Father is that all of mankind be saved into His spiritual Kingdom out from the darkness of the material world. We live in this world but once our spiritual senses are awakened we begin our personal transformation by learning the operations and benefits of our citizenship in the Kingdom of God. We also begin to view the objects and events of this material world with a different point of view. As our relationship to heaven changes so also is our relationship to the people of earth.

My friends be encouraged and strengthen by the image of Christ. Like Jesus must keep as a motto “Not my will but His will be done” and rely on the Spirit of God inside of us. By doing this we will not resist our transformation into the image of our Father’s Master image.  Jesus Christ is described in scripture (Hebrews chapter 1) as being the brightness of our Father’s glory and the express image of His person.

So let us remain on our spiritual journey to becoming more conscious that we are truly sons and daughters of our Father in heaven and that we can become like our Brother Jesus, who carried the fullness of our Father’s Spirit within Him. We like Him are the Kingdom at hand.

1 Corinthians 2:12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God.

Matthew 10:7-8 And as you go, preach, saying, ‘The kingdom of heaven is at hand.’ Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out demons. Freely you have received, freely give.

Metaphorically Speaking of the Kingdom

Television has popularized and made common the concepts surrounding evidentiary law. In fact in their opening argument lawyers often mention that the evidence presented in court might not be as clear as they are used to seeing on television. Shows like Law and Order, CSI, NCIS, Bones, JAG and the like have done a lot to make common the understanding about the presentation and collection of evidence.  It is this is common understanding that makes evidentiary law such a great metaphor.

All that is required for a metaphor to work is a common understanding and the ability to draw upon the relationships between the subject and the metaphor. Jesus the Master taught about spiritual things using farming as metaphor. Since there was a common understanding about farming Jesus was able to relate with His audience. When speaking about spiritual things my personal favorite metaphor would be to use the concepts surrounding quantum physics. However that would have a limited audience and would require a lot more explanation to make sure that the audience also understands the analogy that is being used.

John 3:12
If I have told you earthly things and you do not believe, how will you believe if I tell you heavenly things?

Jesus the master indicated this problem of communicating spiritual truth when talking to a spiritual teacher of His time in chapter three of the book of John. He uses the analogy of being born and he uses the metaphor of the wind. Neither of these worked because the teacher had no understanding of the process of birth nor of the operation of wind. Therefore we must choose a metaphor that folks can relate to or we will fail to bring understanding.

For many years American television has programed shows like Adam 12 and Dragnet which have impacted our culture and have provided many fictional scenarios of the relationship between justice and evidence. So if we want understanding to have cultural impact we should also draw upon analogies with things that have relative impact on our culture. Therefore this is another reason why I believe the Lord has led me to use such and analogy. In December 2011 I was awaken from a dream with an overwhelmingly strong desire to write about my favorite subject, The kingdom of God (KoG) and use the tenants of evidentiary law as an analogy.

Believe me when I tell you I am not trying to show off my ability to gather and understand information. As a person who works in the occupation of software development, law is a subject that is way out of my league. Thank God for the internet and the spiritual truth that states, that in the last days knowledge shall increase. This understanding about evidence not only common for me but it is common and culturally apart of us in the western world.

The KoG is invisible and therefore evidence is something we as representatives of the Kingdom must provide to people who are not awake to its existence. This spiritual evidence that we provided is also given to help change a person’s mind. In our case we are trying to establish the mind of Christ as the new mindset in order to break the bondages and blindness of the old carnal mindset. Evidence of the Kingdom is also used to establish authority and like a signet ring it will prove that the delegation of that authority is authentic.

You, I and all members of the human race have been made joint heirs of God’s Kingdom because of the obedience of Jesus the Christ. For those of us who are awake to this fact now carry the responsibility to awaken those that are still asleep to the truth. Can you imagine having infinite power, wealth, resources and health and not knowing it?

 Galatians 4:1-3
Now I say that the heir, as long as he is a child, does not differ at all from a slave, though he is master of all, but is under guardians and stewards until the time appointed by the father. Even so we, when we were children, were in bondage under the elements of the world.

So I offer the entirety of this blog as evidence of a conscious that is able to see the truth of our Father’s spiritual Kingdom. We relate with our senses in a world that has a structure organized to keep us blind to the reality of the kingdom. To live in the realized truth of our Fathers Kingdom means we are free from the hold of the structures and bondages of the visible world.

The tenants of evidentiary law is a great metaphor because they are intangible and the effect on our life, if we have the knowledge and skill in the use them, can be the difference between remaining innocent and living free in this world or spending our life serving a sentence in the bondage of a penal intuition.

In the same way if we know and understand how to use spiritual evidence it can provide freedom from this world bondages and make available the benefits of the Kingdom for ourselves and others. It is the goal of this blog to provide the evidence that will empower us to be active citizens in the KoG. The Christian new birth experience will awaken the reality of the KoG. However when Kingdom evidence, is presented a heavenly consciousness becomes available and the realization of our unity with the Kingdom inside of us is revealed.

 Matthew 6:24
No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.

We have been made free but we only realize the freedom when we are conscious of the spiritual presence within and when we choose not to rely on the power and might of humans and  the external world. Dual citizenships are presented to us, and we must choose which Kingdom we will declare allegiance. Scripture says it is impossible to serve two kingdoms and spiritual evidence makes visible the spiritual Kingdom.

Therefore spiritual evidence, Kingdom evidence empowers all who view it to choose it. The choice is between the comfortable world we know; the world of sight, sound, smell, taste and hearing. The other choice is a world of spiritual perception and knowledge of overwhelming love and acceptance. One choice is bondage to this world and the other is freedom to be one with God our Father, one choice is familiar the other requires exploration and personal transformation. One choice puts us on a path that is wide and the other leads to a journey on narrow path. So as active members we present evidence to a jury of our peers for each person to make their own choice.

 Hebrews 11:1
Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

Please comment and share:

  1. What was the evidence that set you on the spiritual path?
  2. What evidence empowers and keeps at the task of spiritual transformation into the image of Christ?
